USA Youth Champs - Day 4 Updates

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Magdalyn Ewen was a dominant force in the young women's shot put and discus throws, highlighting day four of the USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Ewen took gold medals in both events and was just a meter shy of 2011 USA Outdoor champion Michelle Carter's national youth shot put record.

Updates were provided throughout the day and can be reviewed below

Long jump
In her first jump of finals, Jakiiah Campbell of the Carolina Allstars extended her lead in the bantam girls' long jump to 3.93m/12-10.75 on her way to the win.
Sprint Extreme's Mario Anderson was ultimately the victor in the bantam boys' long jump, leaping 4.46m/14-7.75.
Competing not far from home, Will Vereen of the Myrtle Beach Track and Field Club won the midget boys' long jump with a mark of 4.80m/15-9.

Triple jump
Spartan Speedster Avery Mickens led the other intermediate boys' triple jumpers by over five feet with his jump of 13.98m/45-10.5.
Jasmine Todd of the Arizona Cheetahs edged out Francesca Evans by four inches to take the win in the young women's triple jump with a mark of 11.90m/39-0.5.
It came down to Mikalah Jones' final attempt in the youth girls' triple jump. Her last jump of 10.84m/35-6.75 surpassed Kennedy Broom's mark and earned her the win.

High jump
Olivia Thorsgaard was the midget girls' high jump champion with her clearance of 1.42m/4-7.75.
Joseph Toye had no misses in on his way to the his final height of 1.75m/5-8.75 which gave him the edge over Rico Tipton and the victory in the youth boys' high jump.
It came down to the number of misses in the intermediate girls' high jump, with Carolina Elite's Amara Bell winning at 1.55m/5-1. 

Shot put
Magdalyn Ewen was just a meter short of 2011 US Outdoor champion Michelle Carter's record in the young women's shot put with a throw of 14.71m/48-3.25.
Golden Eagle Track Club member Alexandria McCoy was the only competitor to surpass the 11-meter mark in the midget girls' 6 lb. shot put with her winning toss of 11.10m/36-5.
Chukwuebuke Enekwechi sent his second throw out past 60 feet in the young men's shot put and ended up with a winning toss of 18.55/60-10.5. 

Discus throw
Valarie Allman improved her lead in the intermediate girls' discus throw by seven feet on her final throw to win with a mark of 40.88m/134-1.
Aaron Zedella's throw of 50.93m/167-1 was the top mark in the intermediate boys' 1.6k discus throw.
Magdalyn Ewen earned her second gold medal of the day as she won the young women's discus throw with a distance of 48.57m/159-4.

Javelin throw
Timon Edelen of the Junior Striders had a close competition with David Sohn in the bantam boys' 300g javelin throw, but his toss of 32.74m/107-5 ultimately held up for the win.
Alyssa Sohn of the Carolina Elite Track and Field Club coasted to the win in the sub-bantam girls' 300g javelin throw with her opening mark of 12.44m/40-10.
Ian Hall dominated the sub-bantam boys' 300g javelin throw with his heave of 24.70m/81-0, a twenty foot lead over his nearest competitor.

Pole vault
Sarah Lee earned Mt. Pleasant Track Club another vault title with her jump of 3.40m/11-1.75 in the intermediate girls' pole vault.
Hannah Acton was victorious in the young women's pole vault and finished with a clearance of 3.85m/12-7.5.
